It’s Renee Yvonne, The Gen Sexologist. And I’m so glad you’re here today. I am working with gen X’s and baby boomers, helping them to have a more exciting and blissful sex life. So today I want to talk a little bit about spring cleaning. We just had daylight savings time. We sprung forward with our time and lost an hour of sleep. I know I am experiencing that feeling right now. How about you? But with that comes spring, we get longer days and it’s an opportunity for us to start over and fresh, especially since we’ve been in COVID now for a year. So this is a chance for us to just kind of renew and refresh. So let me share with you 10 ways, you can spring clean your sex life. So let me start and go through these.
Number one: Toys. So there’s two ways you can do this. Let’s say you don’t have any toys at all. This is a chance for you to go out and try some new toys. Maybe something like the magic wand. I know this is a really big toy. It’s a great neck massager too. Okay. But maybe you want to try something like that. Or maybe you’ve been looking at a clitoral stimulator and you want to try something new like that. This is also an opportunity to get rid of the crappy toys you have. Now, I don’t know about you, but I have a box. I can look over at it right now. And I’ll share that with you someday. I have this huge box of toys and there’s some really terrible toys in there to be quite honest, but you know, you pay the money and you don’t want to get rid of it because you paid money for it. You know, I just need to throw them out. The other thing you can do with your spring cleaning is to get rid of batteries. You guys we’re in 2021. This is your chance to go out and get some rechargeable toys, because I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing worse than using a toy. You’re in the middle of it. And the battery dies. That is a really, really bad time. So let’s upgrade and get some rechargeable toys, throw out toys that are terrible, and let’s buy some new ones that are better.
Number two, your bedroom, again, it’s spring cleaning. Let’s get new sheets. Let’s bring in something that’s more romantic and fun. Let’s smudge the house with some Sage or some Palo Alto. This may be the opportunity for us to put up some pictures that invite more romance and excitement into the bedroom. Maybe we get some candles, make the lighting softer. This is the opportunity to do that while you’re spring cleaning. So let’s get the bedroom ready to have a more romantic night.
Number three, to spring, clean their frequency or the quality of your sex life. So if you feel like you’re not getting it enough, this is the opportunity to talk with your partner about how to get better sex, or if you’re having it too much. This is the time to talk with your partner about maybe how to slow some things down and get what it is that you need out of your sex life. I’ll put the link below, but I suggest you download it. And it’s an opportunity for you to talk about what you want with your spouse. And to really have an honest conversation about that.
Number four, take a sex class. Now I know everything is online right now. They’re definitely more fun when they’re in person, but check out your local adult shops and see if there’s something going on. You may learn some new oral skills. Maybe you’ll learn how to ride him. You might learn some new positions. You might learn some new hand jobs. There’s lots of new things you can learn. And I’m going to be putting up some classes this spring that I’d love for you to check out, but check around and see what’s being offered and learn. Maybe massage. There may be something you can add to your repertoire to always make you a better lover.
Number five kegels, work those kegels, especially for the women. Men you have kegels too (I meant to say pelvic floor muscles too). So if you’re not sure how that works, you know how you have that urge to pee. If you have to pee and you stop for a second and you just stop that motion, those are your Kegel muscles. Work those out. You don’t even have to tell anybody you’re doing it. You can do it while standing in line somewhere. While you’re pumping gas. When you’re cooking your food, you can just relax and contract those muscles, and they help you to have better and stronger orgasms. And for the women, what you might want to do is to try out a Jade egg or kegel balls. There are all kinds of devices on the market that help you to really work. That muscle is strengthening.
Number six, spring cleaning, get rid of toxic partners. If you’re in a relationship, now I know this is easier said than done, but if you’re in a relationship that is causing you stress and pain, this is the time to let it go. So get rid of toxic partners while you’re spring cleaning.
Number seven, check out your lingerie. If you have lingerie that is ill-fitting, is torn, you don’t like it, the colors are wrong, throw it out! Or you may look into your lingerie drawer and go. I have absolutely nothing in here. So this is a time for you to kind of look around and see, what would you like to add? Maybe, maybe you want a chemise. Maybe you want a baby doll. Maybe you want a costume. Maybe you want to try out fishnet stockings, look and see what’s in your lingerie drawer and see what you need to get rid of and what you can add to make that little drawer a little bit spicier and sexier.
Lube. I’ll talk about lube. A lot. Lube is very important. If you don’t have any stock up on it, you also don’t want to run out of lube. Like it’s really bad. When the batteries die, you don’t want to run out of lube. Lube makes everything better. It makes it slicker. There’s less friction and things just feel better. So stock up on some silicone lube and stock up on water-based lube.
Eight, maybe I’m on nine. I think I’m on nine number nine STI tests. This is a great time of year to make an appointment with your doctor or at the local clinic and get tested for STI. Even when you’re in a committed relationship, you never know what your partner may or may not be doing. So you want to schedule an STI and made sure that everybody has a clean bill of health, especially if you are not using a condom or any type of barrier while you’re having sexual intercourse with that person, just make sure that you’re clean and good to go. Especially during this time of COVID, we need our immune system as healthy as possible. So take that time and make sure that you’re STI-free.
And last but not least sex, coaching, or counseling. So this is also a great time. Spring has sprung. Everything is new, and this is a great opportunity, a great time for you to maybe sit down with someone and talk with them about what your goals are for your sex life. And it’s something that may seem like why would I do that? I could figure that out myself, but sometimes you do need some help. Sometimes you need to talk to someone because you’re not getting the things you need. You’re not getting the love that you want. You’re not getting the frequency of sex that you desire. Maybe you’re not having orgasms. Maybe you’re struggling with medication and getting an erection. And this is a great opportunity for you to talk with someone about that. This is your time to do it, and this is your opportunity to do it.
